Well the first 4 days of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth “The Calgary Stampede” are in the books and everyone has had a shot at each barrel and the re draw for the next 4 days is done. As usual there has been highs for some and lows for others.
One of the biggest story lines in the first 4 days and I guess you could say this is one of the “low’s” is the amount of barrels that have been knocked down. Unofficially I believe there was 17 barrels knocked down by drivers in 4 days which once again unofficially may be a record. The “high” side of this is the lack of Outriding Penalties there have been. I believe there has only been 2 penalties in 4 days which is amazing and means the unsung heroes of the sport are doing an outstanding job.
CPCA Driver Kris Molle and his outfit the Big Hearted Mavericks have been tearing up the track taking a day money and placing deep the other days and is currently sitting 2nd in the average. Ray Mitsuing and Heartlake Group has had a great first 4 days and is sitting 7th in the average but you can bet that he has a lot more gas in the tank and will look to climb the charts. BJ Carey and the Midwest Group and Jamie Laboucane with West Industrial Ltd. have had a good stampede so far and are sitting 13th and 15th respectively with lots of days left to make a move. Todd Baptiste and Manteo started the first couple days strong but was 31st on night number 4 that dropped him to 16th in the aggregate but you can bet that he is not going to quit yet, there is plenty of racing left. Barry Hodgson and Roadtrek is sitting 23rd which may not be exactly where he wants to be but he is driving well and staying clean so you can bet if he continues with that he will move up. Some tough luck for Wayne Knight and Graham Group Ltd.on night number 3 when he had a horse go over a tug and bent some equipment and ended up with a No Time but he will be running for day money’s.
