Poundmaker Cree Nation Hosts CPCA Chuckwagons
Good things come to those who wait and what a wait it was for Poundmaker to host the CPCA Chuckwagons on their brand new track. When the vision started they were hoping to host races in June of 2017 but with such a wet spring and it being a brand new track it had to be postponed. For all the volunteers, committee members and Chief Antoine July 27th, 2018 couldn’t come fast enough. The CPCA rolled in and this time Mother Nature was on their side. Three days of exciting races kicked off on Friday evening and wrapped up Sunday afternoon. When the horn went for the first time for heat 1 on Friday Chief Antoine was quoted saying “It was worth the wait”!!
Night number one kicked off with Kris Molle getting fast time of the night with a 1:14.91 and second place went to Rookie Driver Dale Mitsuing with 1:15.99 and rounding up the top three was DJ King stopping the clock at 1:16.15
On night number two Chance Bensmiller took top time with a 1:15.43 and second went to Todd Baptiste with a 1:15.69 and coming in a close third was Lane Tournier at 1:15.70
Championship Sunday was thrilling and it came down to the wire to crown the champion. Ray Mitsuing was fastest of the day with a 1:14.91, Jamie Laboucane took second on the day at 1:14.97 and rounding out the top three was Dale Mitsuing with a 1:15.12. Once the dust settled and everything was calculated Kris Molle with his PWM Steel outfit was the Champion along with Outriders Aric Pare and Logan Pethick. Coming in second place by 3/100th was BJ Carey and his Ron’s Plumbing and Heating and taking home third was Loon Lake, SK Dale Mitsuing with his McCullum Autobody outfit.
